Dominic’s Community Centre originated as a replacement for the old St. Muirin’s House. St Murins house was established in 1977 and operated out of a block of flats been given to the Community by Dublin Corporation.
In Autumn 2008/Spring 2009 Dominic’s Community Centre was built as part of the Avonbeg, Phase IV Infit Housing Scheme. Designed by South Dublin County Council to facilitate the needs of the local community, it was constructed at a cost of approximately €1.5 million.
The Centre is managed by a voluntary management committee consisting of representatives from the local community, and representatives from statutory, and local support agencies including South Dublin County Council, Tallaght Youth Services and the South Dublin County Partnership.
Dominic’s Community Centre services 3,478 houses/housing units in the St Dominic’s Parish of Tallaght which includes the estates of Old Bawn Road, St Mealruains, Mountain Park, Millbrook Lawns, St Dominic’s, Avonbeg, Bolbrook, Avonmore, Homelawns, Bawnville and Seskin View.
